Brass Acid Etch Engraving is suitable for outdoor use, but it requires the right finish and maintenance.

We clear coat Brass plaques with a two-pack epoxy clear coat to protect them from tarnishing. It keeps the coating clear it requires regular cleaning maintenance. The coating will eventually fade, and tarnishing will commence. Some people like the look of tarnished brass. When a brass plaque is tarnished, it will still be legible.

For long-term durability with minimal maintenance, cast bronze or stainless steel are generally better suited to harsh outdoor environments. However, with proper finishing and care, brass can still be a beautiful and effective choice for outdoor plaques and signage.

Non-Tarnish Brass Plaques (Brass-coloured Stainless Steel) are a modern solution to the tarnishing of Brass and are suitable for outdoor use. Our brass-coloured stainless steel boasts all the attributes and low maintenance qualities of stainless steel, with the added benefit of a brass-like appearance. This material has a special electrochemical process that changes the colour of the stainless steel surface to give it a brass finish. We apply the sandblast engraving process to this product to provide it with a sharp, permanent, etched, and paint-filled finish.

Sublimation Brass is a sub-surface full-colour print on specially coated stainless steel, ideal for photo-quality images and vibrant colours. Best for indoor use, as outdoor exposure may cause fading.

Yes. Brass has been used for outdoor plaques for hundreds of years. All of our brass products, except sublimated brass, are suitable for outdoor applications.

Absolutely. Engraving on brass is permanent, highly durable, and resistant to fading, scratching, or wear – even in outdoor or industrial environments. Sublimation printed brass will not fade when kept out of direct sunlight.

We use an engraver's brass material with a linished brushed finish.

In most cases, yes. Please provide us with the item or a photo, and we’ll advise on the best method for engraving based on its shape and finish. Our sandblast etching process makes complicated jobs easy.

All our brass products have a brushed finish. We don't generally supply mirror-polished brass as it is highly vulnerable to scratching.

Yes. We can infill the acid etch and sandblast etched engraving with durable 2-pack epoxy paint in a variety of colours to enhance contrast and visibility. Even PMS colours can be matched, with a small surcharge. More specifically:

Acid Etch can be painted with durable quality paint, and colours can be mixed to suit your needs. 

Sandblast Etch (Brass Stainless) can be paint-filled with durable quality paint, and colours can be mixed to suit your needs. 

Sublimation Printed Brass (for indoor use only) can be full colour printed in any colour. Colour matching can be done; however, the colour, whilst a rich, vibrant finish, is translucent, so it is affected by the colour of the metal and may not be a precise match. But we do get it pretty close.

Yes, all brass products can be custom-cut to your specifications, with optional mounting holes or stand-off fittings. In some cases, we show standard popular sizes on the product page, but they can be cut to any size. As a price guide, the price for the custom-sized item is usually the price of the next size up, standard size.

You can also have the piece cut to any shape. We use laser cutting to cut out shapes like love hearts. 

Anything can be engraved or printed, even photographs. We use different methods to suit your needs. The only things we won’t engrave are rude or racist statements.

It depends on the job but in most cases the set up fee is incorporated into the unit price.
