Centennial Plaza Signage Elements

Adding an etching element to major sign systems to enhance the sign project

Scope of Work

Sandblast and paintfill some aspects of many signage panels to complement the overall signage design.

Premier Awards was engaged to collaborate with a leading architectural signage company on enhancing the large-scale signage program for Centennial Plaza. While the majority of the sign structures featured bold raised lettering and dimensional elements, our role was to complement this work by producing precision flat-etched components.

Using advanced sandblast etching techniques, we created detailed flat panels that were filled with paint in varying shades of grey to introduce depth, contrast, and a visual hierarchy. These carefully finished elements added refinement and subtle detail to the overall design, ensuring the signage scheme achieved both durability and sophistication. Our contribution not only enhanced the aesthetics but also supported the architectural intent of creating a cohesive and premium signage package for one of the city’s landmark developments.

Production

Vinyl masking and sandblasting. then paint fill to various PMS colours.

The work for Centennial Plaza signage involved the production of numerous anodised aluminium panels, each featuring different etched design elements. The signage package was highly complex, with panels manufactured in a wide range of shapes and sizes, including several with challenging curved surfaces. Every piece required precise alignment to meet the design specifications and ensure consistency across the entire signage system.

Our craftsmen carefully etched each panel to the required depth and detail, followed by paint-filling in high-quality finishes to achieve the intended visual effect. Despite the scale and complexity, the project was delivered on time to the construction site on Elizabeth Street, Sydney, ready for installation as part of the broader architectural signage program.

More than 20 years later, the etched and paint-filled elements continue to look as good as the day they were produced. The enduring quality is a testament to the robust craftsmanship and the premium two-pack paints used, which have provided long-term resistance to fading, peeling, and environmental wear. This project remains a strong example of how etched metal signage, when executed to the highest standard, can provide both creative impact and lasting performance in demanding urban environments.
