Scope of Work
For the Melbourne Metro Arden Station project, Premier Awards was entrusted with engraving a series of large sesame granite pavers with a continuous line of Indigenous artwork by artist Ky-ya Nicholson Ward. Inspired by the historic wetlands, known as the Blue Lake or West Melbourne Swamp, the designs reflect the area’s heritage as a gathering place and food source for the local Traditional Owners.
The project involved 40 granite pavers of varying sizes, each 60mm thick, engraved to form a seamless composition once installed. Each paver was individually masked and aligned, then sandblast-engraved to achieve consistent depth and detail while maintaining the cultural integrity of the design. The result is a lasting public artwork that faithfully represents both the artist’s vision and the site’s history.
Production
To achieve a flawless result, large-scale vinyl masks were produced and precisely aligned so the intricate designs would flow seamlessly across all 40 granite pavers. Each paver, 60mm thick heavy pavers, required specialised equipment and careful coordination to move safely through each stage of production. From unloading and storage to handling during engraving, our team maintained strict processes to protect both the stone and the artwork.
Using our automated CNC sandblasting system, we maintained a uniform depth and crisp detail across every piece, ensuring durability and consistency of the design. The sheer size and weight of the order required efficient scheduling and meticulous attention to logistics, with multiple pavers working simultaneously to meet project deadlines. Once engraving was completed, each paver was cleaned, inspected, securely packaged, and carefully reloaded for transport. They were shipped back to Melbourne in excellent condition, ready for seamless installation on site.
Capacity
At Premier Awards, our experienced craftspeople combine technical skill with a deep respect for cultural integrity. We have the capability to deliver large-scale stone engraving projects that demand precision, durability, and consistency, even when working with challenging materials such as thick, heavyweight granite pavers.
Our workshop is equipped with advanced CNC sandblasting systems and specialised lifting and handling equipment, allowing us to manage the logistics of heavy stone safely and efficiently. From unloading and storage through to engraving and secure re-shipment, we maintain strict processes to protect the material and the artwork.
Collaboration is at the heart of our approach. We work closely with architects, designers, artists, and construction companies to ensure each project is completed to specification and delivered on time.
