Scope of Work
Premier Awards was commissioned to engrave a line drawing of the historic Royal Oak Hotel into granite pavers, to be permanently installed along the sidewalk beside the site of the original building in Parramatta. The project served as a heritage landmark, celebrating the cultural and historical significance of the Royal Oak Hotel within the community. The artwork was designed to stretch seamlessly across 24 granite pavers, creating a continuous tribute to the site's history along Church Street.
Production
To capture the intricate detail of the line drawing, we produced a fine-detail photopolymer mask that allowed for precise sandblasting without losing any of the artwork’s character. Using our CNC AutoBlaster system, we maintained a uniform engraving depth across all 24 pavers, ensuring a consistent and professional finish. Once engraved, the design was filled with high-grade gold epoxy paint, chosen for its durability and weather resistance, ensuring the artwork would remain vibrant and long-lasting despite heavy pedestrian traffic.
Outcome
The engraved and gold-filled granite pavers were installed as part of Parramatta City’s streetscape, transforming the footpath into a public heritage artwork that connects passers-by with the site’s historic significance. The project demonstrates Premier Awards’ ability to combine technical engraving expertise, material knowledge, and cultural sensitivity to deliver enduring stone artworks for urban environments.
