Scope of Work
Engrave the Virgin logo onto twenty-four Travertine Pavers to create a brand montage for the new Bondi Junction Fitness centre.
Virgin Active’s new flagship facility in Bondi Junction features a striking reception wall that showcases the iconic Virgin logo etched into natural Travertine stone. Each paver measured 1200×600×1mm, with the full wall spanning 2700 x2700mm.
To achieve this seamless montage, the logo was carefully engraved across 14 individual pavers. Precision was critical; each tile had to align perfectly on site, with engraving depths kept consistent to ensure the logo presented as one continuous seamless design.
This was the ideal application for our CNC AutoBlaster, which utilises advanced vacuum blasting technology to deliver accuracy and consistency that surpasses what can be achieved by hand. The result is a subtle yet impressive feature wall that reflects both quality craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, and delivers pride of place branding in the magnificent new fitness facility.
Production
Precision vinyl mask lay-up and CNC-automated sandblasting to a 3-mil depth to form precise montage
Production began by plotting the graphics to exact specifications and cutting a heavy-duty vinyl mask on our sign cutter, producing the design in sections. Our chief craftsman, Ghiath Khalil, then meticulously assembled the montage row by row, creating precisely masked 1200 × 600 mm tiles.
After thorough checks, the masked tiles were transferred to the CNC AutoBlaster. The system was programmed to map the engraving zones for an efficient and accurate blast sequence. With a fresh bag of abrasive, the AutoBlaster was calibrated for depth and run speed before working progressively across all 14 Travertine tiles, ensuring a consistent finish throughout the entire montage.
Once engraving was complete, each tile underwent a detailed cleaning and inspection before being securely packed for safe transport to the site.
